Your students will be participating in Spirit
Day next February and will be required to have BLACK jazz shoes to
perform. Attached are suggestions for a jazz shoe.
I do not personally like a tie shoe as they
seem to always come undone during performances. I opt for elastic gussets
as shown in the picture. The gusset can either be ON top center or on the
sides. I just happen to prefer the center gusset for a cleaner line on
the foot.
On researching other outlets for purchase I
also discovered Sears and Payless carry jazz shoes as well as eBay and
Amazon. The three most reliable however are the ones listed. Please
note that street shoe size does NOT always translate in dance shoe size.
I wear an 8.5 and my jazz shoes are a 9.5 or a 10 depending on brand.
Trying them on is a MUST unless you are absolutely sure of the sizing.
Once purchased - please make sure that they
wear them with a light sock at first to break them in and then by performance
time, they will be softer and molded to the foot so they can wear them WITHOUT
the sock. Some of my last students purchased their shoes a few days
before the performance and they ended up with painful blisters because the
leather was still stiff. They need to be broken in to eliminate that happening
to your child.

hesitate to contact me via school e-mail atcneel@gusd.net.
